Photographic Workshops

Explore creative process and hone your skills to create, see and experience art through a journey with Anne's small group, interactive Photographic Explorer series! Students will explore the tools and creative possibilities of photographic image making through camera work and responding to imagery with language. Together we will engage in topic image making, reflective activities, the study of important image makers and thoughtful review of one another’s work as we develop and enhance our own ways of seeing and creating.

These interactive classes are ideal for all ages, and especially with a friend, family member, or caregiver. Bring your cell phone or digital camera and join us for an enriching experience in your creative study. All levels of experience are welcome!

 Workshops are an engaging augmentation of your current school learning, Homeschool groups, independent exploration, or as an activity for family or friends to enjoy together.  We are happy to recommend or custom design a class that works for your group!

 

 Goals of every Photographic Explorer Workshop:

-Develop and nurture creative thinking and creative process skills

-Develop and nurture problem solving skills, a willingness to try new things, to understand that “mistakes” are essential elements of the learning and solution process 

-Explore ways of seeing, looking and creating photographic image making

-Be comfortable in sharing your view, listening to others’ views on your work and others’ work.

-To notice things outside of yourself

-Create the narrative 

-Develop Idea Creation skills, utilize mind-mapping

-Looking at light, considering how the negative and positive spaces apply to life. What we see and what is not seen.

-Become open to deeper thought through noticing your feelings of vulnerability of safety and risk taking.

-Pursue Curiosity

-Mindfulness, Contemplative Processes and Practices

Engage in creative process, and hone your skills to create, see and experience art through a journey with the Photographic Explorer Series!  Together we will explore creative image making through digital camera technique and the study of important works by photographers and painters, then put these considerations into practice with still life, outdoor, and portrait work. In this interactive class we will engage in thoughtful review of one another’s work as we develop and enhance our own ways of seeing and creating. We hope you will join us for this enriching experience in your creative study. All levels of experience welcome.

Photographic Explorer: Foundations 1/2 Day

9:30am - 1:00pm  Virtual via ZOOM or In Person

Engage in a creative process and hone your skills to create, see and experience art through a journey with the Photographic Explorer Foundations all in one morning! 

The morning schedule:

  • Welcome, Introductions, Poem, Discussion of Camera as a Medium
  • Principles of Design, Camera Mechanics, Looking at Images
  • Break
  • Camera Work: Still Lives  (with break out rooms and individual instruction)
  • Group Student Image Review
  • Overview and Reflections

Preparation at home for class: Select 3 -5 modest-sized objects and arrange as a still life on a surface near a light source. You will need a digital camera or cell phone to use during class when we apply our camera techniques to photograph your still life.  Each student will share one image with the class for discussion. You will also need note taking material and access to Zoom. Snacks and a drink are recommended but are optional!

Photographic Explorer: Lecture Series with Interactive Discussion and Study

In Development

This series will be presented as weekly lectures, focusing on a different photographer, photography style, technique, or theme each meeting.

Students will be able to sign up for one lecture at a time, or the series for a special price. 

Each meeting will be 1.5 hours and are currently slated for Friday mornings.
